Advanced Care

Advanced care doesn’t always mean a trip to the emergency room or specialist’s office. We offer a variety of advanced therapeutic treatments and advanced services, right here in our office.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy, also known as infrared laser therapy or photobioimmodulation, has been shown to reduce pain and aid in healing many conditions. It is often used in conjunction with oral pain medication, or when your pet cannot tolerate traditional medications. Our doctors may recommend Cold Laser Therapy for the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Intervertebral disk disease (back pain)
  • Post-operative pain and swelling
  • Wound healing
  • Painful skin and ear infections
  • Acute injuries and sprains

Your doctor will prescribe a treatment protocol customized to the specific needs of your pet. Acute problems like wounds or infections may improve with a single laser treatment. Management of chronic conditions can be achieved with a series of short treatments spread out over several weeks.

Stem Cell Therapy

Part of the emerging field of Regenerative Medicine, stem cell therapy aims to “turn back the clock” in pets with chronic, painful conditions. This minimally invasive procedure allows a small sample of your pet’s adipose tissue (fat cells) to be converted into stem cells. These cells are then injected into diseased areas of the body to help generate new, healthy tissue. Right now, the doctors at Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital are using this cutting-edge therapy for the treatment of arthritis and other painful musculoskeletal diseases.

Ultrasound

At Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital we maintain our own ultrasound equipment in addition to having specialists visit regularly to perform more advanced imaging. This pain free, non-stressful procedure provides us with a real-time image of your pet’s internal systems and assists us in diagnosing a wide range of conditions, such as gastrointestinal disorders, urinary problems, and cardiac disease. Endoscopy

Endoscopy allows direct visualization of the gastrointesinal tract, respiratory tract, urinary tract, ear canals, and nasal pasages using a fiberoptic camera. This minimally invasive technique aids in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases with significantly less pain and recovery time than traditional surgery. At CVH, we utilize endoscopy for the following anesthetized procedures:

  • Gastric foreign body retrieval: Removal of large objects that your pet has swallowed without the need for surgical incision.
  • Gastrointestinal biopsy: A non-surgical option for diagnosis of chronic vomiting and weight loss.
  • Deep ear cleaning and biopsy: A valuable tool in treatment of chronic, and recurrent ear infections.
  • Rhinoscopy: Used to identify and treat the causes of chronic nasal discharge, sneeezing, and nose bleeds.
  • Cystoscopy: A minimally invasive way to biopsy the lower urinary tract and retrieve bladder stones in female dogs.

CO2 Laser Surgery

We are proud to utilize CO2 laser technology for many of our soft tissue surgical procedures. CO2 laser reduces hemorrhage, swelling, and pain for our patients during recovery from surgery. It also allows for more precise removal of many forms of skin tumors, which are the most common cancer in dogs.
